Both clubs will be keen to win promotion to the FA Women’s Championship, a league which will be more lucrative than ever before next season with the ground-breaking Barclays investment deal set to commence.
In the regular season, Southampton won the FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division title with a nine-point cushion while Wolverhampton Wanderers won the Northern equivalent with an eight-point margin. The Saints haven’t lost any of their last 27 matches in all competitions in 90 minutes while this afternoon’s opponents Wolves are unbeaten in nine games.
Both sides go into the match in good shape, however, Wolves will contest the final without their manager Dan McNamara who is currently away on a compulsory RAF exercise. Karl Milgate will deputise for McNamara in the Wolves dugout as the West Midlands side look to thrive on their tag of ‘underdogs’.
Southampton will have a deadly array of attacking players on show with Ella Pusey, Lucia Kendall and Sophia Pharaoh having shared 63 goals between them this season while Wolves forward Amber Hughes has hit an impressive 24 goals for her side. Neither team is expected to sit back in Stockport this afternoon with the game set to provide some excellent entertainment.
The FA Women’s National League Championship Play-off Final kicks-off at 3pm. Fans can pay on the gate at Edgeley Park with tickets priced at £5 adults and £2.50 concessions while under-10s go free.
