PREVIEW: Sheffield United v Watford

Sheffield United will be eager to build on their positive start in the FA Women’s Championship with newly-promoted Watford providing their latest challenge at The Technique Stadium this afternoon.

Neil Redfearn’s side have bounced back well after opening the campaign with a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Blackburn Rovers by comfortably winning their next two games and they are sitting just below early leaders Sunderland in the table. Supporters of The Blades will be optimistic that the team can kick on and challenge for promotion to the Barclays FA Women’s Super League after the club finished in fourth place last season.

Before the international break, forward Courtney Sweetman-Kirk returned to goalscoring ways with a brace at Coventry United. Sweetman-Kirk has struck up a new partnership with ex-Liverpool teammate Jess Clarke and youngster Lucy Watson in the final third early this season.

As for Watford, their first FA Women’s Championship campaign for four seasons hasn’t been plain sailing. Three defeats from three sees them joint-bottom of the table along with Coventry United as it stands, however, a couple of narrow losses will give The Golden Girls confidence that they can turn the results around.

The international break has allowed manager Clinton Lancaster the chance to further implement his playing style to the new players and he’s optimistic that his side can start turning performances into points.

The FA Women’s Championship fixture between Sheffield United and Watford kicks-off at 2pm with fans able to pay on the day to attend.
