Preview: Roma v Manchester United – Europa League semi-final second leg | OneFootball

Manchester United will be looking to book their place in the Europa League final when they take on Roma in the second leg of their Europa League semi-final tie at the Stadio Olimpico on Thursday night.

The Reds go into the game leading the tie 6-2 on aggregate knowing that bar a catastrophe of a result United should progress to the final in Gdansk, Poland.

Head coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is widely expected to make a host of changes to his starting eleven to face Roma with David De Gea, Donny Van De Beek and Mason Greenwood all expected to feature.

The Europa League may not have been necessarily top of every fans priority list this season, but it represents the club’s only chance of winning some silverware this season and with United already leading the Italian side by four goals Thursday nights game presents the Reds a fantastic opportunity to progress to the final.

Roma have endured a disappointing campaign in Serie A this season currently sitting in seventh position and are a shadow of their former selves. Going forward they remain a threat but defensively as shown in the first leg they are vulnerable and if United can grab an early goal it would end the tie completely and put to bed any hopes of a Roma comeback.

Should United get past Roma, the Reds would face the prospect of playing either Villarreal or Arsenal in the final and without been disrespectful to any of those teams they are sides that you would expect United to beat particularly if United turn up and play to their potential.

With Champions League football all but secure for next season winning the Europa League would round off what would be a successful season for Manchester United and for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

It may not have been the season we had all hoped for but securing a top four spot and a winning a trophy is nothing to be looked down upon at and it would put the reds in a strong position to build upon for bigger and better things next season.
