Having dropped points against Sampdoria and Real Madrid, Inter now need to ensure that they beat visiting Bologna to keep pace with the leading pack. Match today Saturday at 18:00 CET.

Simone Inzaghi’s men need to put behind them the dual disappointments of the draw against Sampdoria and the midweek loss against Real Madrid.

Both were games where the Nerazzurri merited far more than the final result. If Inter are to mount a serious challenge on any of the competitions they’re taking part in, they must work on becoming more clinical in converting their chances.

Sinisa Mihaijlovic’s Bologna continue being stereotypically enigmatic; the Rossoblu have defied expectations both positively and negatively over the past few seasons.

Despite a strong start to their season so far, one cannot reliably predict what kind of Bologna will show up for their next match.

As with most of the middling Serie A sides, Bologna rely on a spine of  seasoned league veterans such as defenders Gary Medel and Lorenzo Di Silvestre and midfielder Roberto Soriano who play alongside a few rising youngsters like Musa Barrow and Riccardo Orsolini.

Over the summer Bologna added yet another ex-Interista to their line-up in the ever controversial Marko Arnautovic, expect the Austrian forward to trouble any defense he comes up against.

Inzaghi is widely expected to start the match with an attacking duo of Lautaro Martinez and Joaqin Correa for the first time this season.

The pair showed lots of promise and understanding during their international duties and Interisti will be hoping they can emulate this form domestically.

Expect Dutch winger Denzel Dumfries to start on the right flank, much is expected of the wide-man who was praised highly by ex-Inter coach Antonio Conte midweek.

Inter need a strong performance and a big result here to reset the start of their season. Expect them to attack the visitors relentlessly. Ruthlessness in front of goal is the name of the game.

Team News

It appears that Inzaghi will only be missing Stefano Sensi and Christian Eriksen due to injury and the latter’s ongoing health issues. With no other players suspended, the Italian tactician will have an almost full roster to choose from, albeit one with a few players possibly suffering from a touch of fatigue.

Probable Inter line-up (3-5-2): Handanovic (C); Skriniar, De Vrij, Bastoni; Dumfries, Brozovic, Calhanoglu, Barella, Perisic; Lautaro, Correa.

Stats

Last Season: Inter 3 – 1 Bologna.

Last 10 Head to Head: Inter hold a commanding lead over their visitors over the past ten matches, with six wins to Bologna’s pair of victories.

Keep An Eye On

Nicolo Barella: Bare seems to have struck up an increasingly functional understanding with his midfield teammates, Hakan Calhanoglu and Marcelo Brozovic.

Barella’s performance against Sampdoria last weekend was one for the ages, and his midweek midfield pairing with Brozo appeared to be building on new found understanding.

If Inter are to bring home any silverware this season, it needs to be built on a strong and solid midfield.

Prediction & Concluding Remarks

Prediction & scorers: Inter 3 – 0 Bologna; with Lautaro, Correa and Barella getting on the scoresheet.

Concluding remarks: Inter need a strong performance against a weaker opponent here to ensure than any creeping doubts about the project are quickly put to bed.

Expect Inzaghi to ensure that his attackers work on their wastefulness and efficiency in front of goal.
