Eintracht have enjoyed a perfect start to the new year with four wins from as many games thanks to victories over St. Pauli (1-0), Freiburg (4-1), Borussia Dortmund (2-0) and Ferenváros (2-0). That has helped them climb up to third in the Bundesliga table ahead of Sunday’s away match against Hoffenheim on Bundesliga Matchday 19 (kick-off 15:30 CET).

15,000  travelling fans expected

There are only approximately 100 kilometres between Frankfurt and Hoffenheim’s PreZero Arena, which is why around 15,000 Eintracht supporters are expected to make the trip there. Given that the stadium has a capacity of 30,150, almost half will be decked out in Frankfurt colours.

“We’re looking forward to the match all the more knowing that we’ll have fantastic support from our fans again, it’ll give us even more energy,” said head coach Dino Toppmöller at his pre-match press conference.

Hoffenheim, who suffered a 3-2 defeat at home to Tottenham Hotspur in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday, are in 15th place in the Bundesliga standings going into the weekend’s action. Looking back: History on Frankfurt’s side

The Eagles have won 13 of the 31 competitive meetings between these teams to date, including a 3-1 success on their last trip to Sinsheim. In fact, Eintracht have won by that same scoreline in their last three matches against Hoffenheim, who have taken the points 10 times overall, with eight draws.

Trapp on the cusp of history

Toppmöller’s charges have been particularly hungry for goals this season with 42 after 18 rounds of matches. However, Toppmöller has repeatedly highlighted that “the key is to defend from the front”. Meanwhile, Kevin Trapp is on the verge of setting a new best mark for the club. If he keeps a clean sheet this weekend it will be his 59th for the Eagles, a new outright record after equalling the previous best by Dr. Peter Kunter on 17 January. There will be plenty of fans in attendance to congratulate him should he reach that landmark.
