The final international matches involving Eintracht players took place on Tuesday night, with the week’s training having already started that morning on the pitches of Deutsche Bank Park. Four days later, at the classic Bundesliga time of 15:30 on Saturday, the clash away to the defending German champions awaits the Eagles. “It’s going to be a tough task, on a par with the game against Bayern,” said Mo Dahoud. “They’re champions and have become a really settled team over the last two years. It won’t be an easy game but it’s winnable. I always want to get three points in every game.”

The effect of the last-minute equaliser in the spectacular 3-3 draw against Bayern on Matchday 6 is still being felt 10 days on. “It just felt awesome,” added Dahoud, describing the late leveller from Omar Marmoush. Eintracht are now unbeaten in five Bundesliga games, registering four wins and one draw in that time – 13 points, third in the table. “We want to stay hungry,” explained coach Dino Toppmöller. “The mentality in the group is unbelievable. This is how it must and should continue.”

Leverkusen have collected 11 points so far in the 2024/25 season, having shared the spoils in each of their last two league outings – away to Bayern and at home to Holstein Kiel. Xabi Alonso’s men conceded goals number 10, 11 and 12 of the season in those games, meaning they’ve already let in half as many as in the whole of the previous campaign, when Bayer stormed the title without defeat and also won the DFB Cup.

Fixture that guarantees goals

Be it in Frankfurt or Leverkusen, there’s never been a goalless draw in the 78 Bundesliga meetings between Eintracht and Bayer 04. No other fixture has been played as often in the history of the German top flight without the net ever not rippling at least once.

That looks unlikely to change on Saturday, especially given Marmoush’s deadly form this season. The Egyptian has notched eight goals and four assists in the first six Bundesliga matchdays, with another goal and two assists in all competitions.

The home side’s main man for goals is Victor Boniface. The 23-year-old Nigerian has found the net four times in the last four Bundesliga games. Only one player has been more prolific during this period: Omar Marmoush.
