Eintracht Frankfurt face Aberdeen in their final Europa Conference League group game.

The backdrop

Saturday’s 5-1 Bundesliga win over Bayern Munich has certainly given the Eagles a huge confidence boost ahead of the trip to Scotland. “The lads can enjoy themselves and have two days off,” Eintracht boss Dino Toppmöller said on the back of the thumping Matchday 14 victory at Deutsche Bank Park. “Then we’ll prepare ourselves for the tasks that lie ahead.”

There is little sense of jeopardy surrounding the UEFA Europa Conference League visit to Aberdeen on Thursday 14 December (kick-off 18:45 CET). After losing 2-1 at home to PAOK on Matchday 5, Eintracht are guaranteed to finish second behind the Greek side in Group G. Whatever happens in Scotland, the Eagles will be involved in next year’s knockout round play-offs on 15 and 22 February, when they will face one of the teams that finish third in the UEFA Europa League group stage for a place in the last 16.

Third-placed Aberdeen are currently on three points in Group G after drawing twice with HJK and once with PAOK, leaving them out of the running for a place in the knockout stages. The Dons enjoyed a last-gasp victory over Heart of Midlothian in the Scottish Premiership on Saturday, with goals from Bojan Miovski and Leighton Clarkson helping them come from 1-0 down to win 2-1 on home soil.

Last time out

Toppmöller’s men beat Aberdeen 2-1 at Deutsche Bank Park on 21 September thanks to efforts from Omar Marmoush and Robin Koch.

Five games, five goal involvements for Chaibi

Farès Chaibi has appeared in all five of Eintracht’s Europa Conference League group matches this season. The attacking midfielder has been directly involved in five of the Eagles’ 11 goals, having scored a stunner in the 1-0 win at HJK and laid on four others. No other player has registered more assists in the competition this season.
