The Wildcats have a history of making life difficult for top flight sides in domestic cup competitions and Lee Sanders’ side will be keen to continue that theme when they meet The Red Devils in their FA Women’s Continental League Cup group opener in DH1.
Durham come into the game on the back of four consecutive 2-0 wins in the FA Women’s Championship. The Wildcats have also won each of their three home fixtures this season. Manager Sanders has no new injury concerns to contend with, forward Nicki Gears remains the only absentee as a result of long term injury.
Manchester United go into the match without defender Millie Turner who remains a few weeks away from a return. Kirsty Smith and Martha Thomas are making good progress following their respective injuries and could be available after the international break. Head coach Marc Skinner has confirmed that he will make some changes to his starting XI for this match. This could mean a competitive debut for goalkeeper Sophie Baggaley while the likes of Martha Harris, Vilde Bøe Risa, Hayley Ladd, Ivana Fuso, Carrie Jones and Lucy Staniforth could also come in.
The FA Women’s Continental League Cup group fixture between Durham and Manchester United kicks-off at 7pm.
