Brighton and Manchester City will once again meet for the return leg of September’s 0-0 draw.

After a disappointing midweek for Manchester city and a slightly rocky start to the season for Brighton, this weekend’s game may provide a chance for not only some vital points but also a confidence boost.

Manchester City go into this fixture fourth in the league table, sitting on 21 points from 10 games. The hosts Brighton have a tally of nine points from their 11 games.

The two teams have already gone head-to-head this season back in September at the City Football Academy. That match ended in a goalless draw, with the Seagull’s defence and goalkeeper Megan Walsh proving too much for City’s attack.

It will be interesting to see whether having the home team advantage will encourage Brighton to play in a more attacking style this time around.  That was just over four months ago, so where are the teams now?

The hosts go into Sunday’s game on the back of a loss, a win and three draws in their previous five games. Meanwhile, the Sky Blues travel to the Amex Stadium with four wins and a draw in their last five league games.

Brighton’s last league game a week ago ended in a 0-0 draw against Birmingham whilst City’s home tie to Aston Villa finished in a 7-0 victory.

There are some notable absences from the City squad. The World Cup-winning duo of Rose Lavelle and Sam Mewis are still away on national duty. The visitors are also plagued with a rapidly expanding injury list.

The home team are also sporting depleted numbers, yet manager Hope Powell has said that all players are on their way back to fitness.

Who to look out for

Both teams have players to look out for with the Seagull’s Kaagman and Jarrett both scoring in recent fixtures. For the Sky Blues’ Hemp, Stanway and Kelly have all been in fine form over their recent fixtures.

Both sides go into this fixture with points to prove. Brighton will look to move out of ninth place and into the middle of the league table. For Manchester City, a Champions League position is on the line. They will be looking to right their disappointing midweek and move into third position.
