Borussia Dortmund will look to qualify for the Club World Cup round of 16 as they take on Ulsan Hyundai on Wednesday at TQL Stadium.
Niko Kovac’s side edged a seven-goal thriller against Mamelodi Sundowns at the weekend, while Ulsan lost 4-2 to Fluminense in their previous outing.
Mamelodi took a shocking lead in the 11th minute, but Dortmund ended the first-half with a 3-1 lead in a stunning comeback, thanks to goals from Felix Nmecha, Serhou Guirassy, and Jobe Bellingham.
Iqraam Rayners and Lebo Mothiba threatened to rescue a draw, but the Black and Yellow held out to edge the contest.
The victory means Dortmund are second in Group F, having the same points as leaders Fluminense.
The Bundesliga club are not yet certain of their place in the knockouts as Memelodi are just a point below them and will play their final group game against Renato Gaucho’s side on Wednesday.
On the other hand, Ulsan have already been eliminated from the tournament after losing their opening two matches.
The South Korean outfit were leading 2-1 against Fluminense by half-time but a second-half capitulation saw them losing 4-2 on Saturday.
Emre Can and Nico Schlotterbeck haven’t been involved due to injury issues, and the duo are expected to be absent for Wednesday’s clash. New signing Jobe Bellingham will likely continue in attack, with Pascal Gross and Felix Nmecha also keeping their spots in midfield.
Manager Kim Pan-gon started Won-Sang Um and Erick Farias in the forward line against Fluminense, but the South Korean boss could feature Matias Lacava as Um was forced off early due to injury.
Borussia Dortmund: Kobel; Sule, Anton, Bensebaini; Couto, Nmecha, Gross, Svensson; Bellingham, Brandt; Guirassy
Ulsan Hyundai: Jo; Trojak, Kim, Jung; Kang, Ko, Bojanic, Lee, Ludwigson; Lacava, Farias
Dortmund haven’t been entirely convincing with their performances so far, but they are expected to claim a comfortable victory against Ulsan on Wednesday. The Asian team have nothing but pride to play for after losing their first two matches of the competition.
