Birmingham City and Chelsea will hope to take another step towards Wembley on Wednesday evening when the pair contest their long-awaited Vitality Women’s FA Cup quarter-final tie at St Andrew’s.

The hosts find themselves in the last eight after seeing off Coventry United and Southampton back in May while Chelsea have defeated London City Lionesses and Everton in this season’s competition.

Birmingham City go into their latest match on the back of a three-match losing run in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League. Head coach Scott Booth remains without long term absentees Christie Murray and Arabella Suttie through injury, reducing his options in what is already a very small squad. Lucy Quinn and Libby Smith are thought to be ineligible under competition rules

Chelsea travel to The Midlands just three days after recording a resounding 6-1 victory over Manchester United at The Leigh Sports Village. Scotland international Erin Cuthbert missed that match as a result of concussion protocols but she could return to action at St Andrew’s while defender Maren Mjelde is set to be Chelsea’s only absentee. Manager Emma Hayes is likely to use the match to rotate her squad with a hectic domestic and European fixture schedule ahead.

The Vitality Women’s FA Cup quarter-final tie between Birmingham City and Chelsea at St Andrew’s kicks-off at 7.45pm on Wednesday evening.
