After putting in the hard yards in training, the Eagles can now look forward to their first friendly on the ADIDAS U.S. TOUR, against Aston Villa in Louisville on Saturday.
The ADIDAS U.S. TOUR is in full swing, with the players already having four intensive training sessions under their belts and another one to come on Friday morning in Louisville. The following day (Saturday 26 July) will see the opening friendly of the tour, a week to the day after the 3-2 win over FSV Frankfurt. The opponents this time around at the Lynn Family Stadium will be one of England’s big guns in the form of Aston Villa, with both the fans in Kentucky and the Eagles themselves looking forward to what promises to be an exciting clash. Kick-off is at 19:00 local time, which will be 1 am on Sunday 27 July back in Germany.
Pre-season highlight
The clash between two big names from the Bundesliga and the Premier League on US soil is one of the highlights of pre-season and also proof that Eintracht Frankfurt’s globalisation strategy is bearing fruit.
The Birmingham-based Premier League club only headed to the USA on Thursday, and the Eintracht match will be one of three friendlies that they will be playing on their travels. The Eagles will be the second German opponents that Villa will have faced during their preparations for the 2025/26 campaign, after going down 3-1 last week to Hansa Rostock at the Ostseestadion.
Return to competitive action in mid-August Head coach Unai Emery’s team finished sixth last season and also made it through to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League. Their Premier League campaign kicks off on 16 August against Newcastle United, with Eintracht also set to get things under way that weekend, albeit in the first round of the DFB Cup against FV Engers 07.
“We’re really looking forward to Saturday,” said Frankfurt central defender Aurèle Amenda ahead of the clash with the long-established English club, whose trophy cabinet includes seven league titles, another seven FA Cup trophies and also the 1981/82 European Cup.
For both teams, this weekend’s match will be the first of three US friendlies. On Tuesday 29 July (19:30 local time/1:30 CEST on Wednesday 30 July), Eintracht will take on Louisville City FC at the Lynn Family Stadium. Then, on Saturday 2 August (17:30 local time, 23:30 CEST), the Eagles will ramp things up against MLS side Philadelphia Union at Subaru Park, bringing down the curtain on the ADIDAS U.S. TOUR.
