Bayern Munich welcome Jesse Marsch’s RB Salzburg to the Allianz Arena on Wednesday evening as the reigning Champions League winners look to secure their place in the knockout stages.

Hansi Flick’s side currently top Group A with nine points with Spanish side Atlético Madrid in second on four – with three wins from three and a +9 goal difference, the Germans need just one point to secure a place in the next round.

Halfway through the group stage, Bayern Munich’s odds have shortened to +275 leading the table as the main favourites to win the tournament

Bayern Munich went 1-0 down to RB Salzburg in their previous meeting and despite going on to win 6-2 in Austria, it was a tougher game than the scoreline suggests. On Wednesday, Bayern Munich will have to do it without Joshua Kimmich, Alphonso Davies and Corentin Tolisso, all of whom will miss the fixture due to injury.

Flick has also confirmed that Niklas Süle isn’t fit enough after returning from a recent injury whilst Lucas Hernandez and Bouna Sarr remain doubtful. Going forward, the Bavarians should have enough firepower to see off RB Salzburg with Robert Lewandowski & Co. but with if their previous fixture is anything to go by, Bayern need to be at their absolute best defensively.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Flick said: “Our goal tomorrow is to win and secure our spot in the last 16, but it will be a difficult task. Salzburg put their opponents under pressure and are also strong in possession.

“With Marc Roca and Javi Martínez, we have two players who can play in the double pivot. We played with one six against Bremen & Leon [Goretzka] did well. It will be important to put the opponent under pressure in this position to win the ball back.”
