AC Milan will play Juventus in the Coppa Italia Femminile this weekend in what will be the first of a two-legged affair.

The game will take place on Saturday and kick-off time will be at 14:30 CET. Here’s an overview of what you need to know before the first battle…

The background

Milan had to overcome Lady Granata Cittadella and Hellas Verona in the group stages before progressing to the quarterfinals of the competition. They defeated both teams handily and scored eleven unanswered goals against them. They then went on to defeat Sampdoria and they did so by an aggregate score of 8-2.

Juventus, on the other hand, had to surpass Roma Calcio Femminile and Pink Bari in the group stages. The Bianconere easily dispatched their Serie B opponents by a combined score of 12-2. They then met their arch rivals Inter in the quarterfinals. After tying the first game, Juve won the second and qualified for the next round with an aggregate score of 2-1.

The two teams have already met once in the league this year, and it ended in a heavy 5-2 defeat for Milan. Neither team have looked great in their last two outings, as Juventus lost to Empoli by a score of 2-1 on February 27th. It was their first defeat in the championship in three years. They then followed that up with a 1-1 tie with their Scudetto rivals, Roma.

Milan has had a similarly lacklustre form in the league. They played Sassuolo to a nil-nil stalemate and then played Napoli to a 1-1 tie. Now, both the Rossonere and Bianconere will put their perfect records in the Coppa Italia to the test in the semifinals. It will be a war of attrition between the two sides as they both try to find the goals that have so desperately eluded them in order to win this contest.

A big boost

Fortunately for Milan, they’ll head into this game after restocking their arsenal. As per SempreMilan.it, Laia Codina will make her return to the squad. The young defender had missed the previous match against Napoli due to knee problems. Codina has now recovered from them and should be good to go against Juventus.

The story is the complete opposite for Alia Guagni. The fullback is still recovering from a calf injury and as a result, the team decided to not risk her for this match. However, the team will try to have her ready for the game against Roma on March 19th. The defender is in a race against time to get fit and we’ll see if she crosses the finish line.

Possible formations

Milan will most likely deploy a 3-4-3 against la Vecchia Signora. Codina should be fit enough to start and will be deployed in a trident alongside Laura Agard and Laura Fusetti. Bergamaschi, Longo, and Thomas will be the Rossonere’s front three in attack. Meanwhile, there is a debate over whether Refiloe Jane or Christy Grimshaw will start alongside Greta Adami in the midfield. Sara Thrige and Linda Tucceri Cimini will complete the team as the starting fullbacks.

Prediction

Given how hard the Rossonere have struggled to score during their last two games, it’s difficult to see them winning this one. The uphill climb is made even steeper without the presence of Martina Piemonte and Alia Guagni to provide both defensive solidarity and an attacking threat. Don’t be surprised if Milan either tie or lose narrowly.

How to watch

If you live in Italy, the game will be broadcast on Milan TV and TimVision. The game will also be on Ata Football and streamed worldwide without restrictions on La7.
