With a lot of EFL clubs going through the ringer with questionable ownership decisions in recent years, there was some skepticism over Kirchner’s potential move to take control at Deepdale, and North End supporters will be intrigued to see how the American businessman performs, if he is successful in taking over at Derby County.

FLW’s Preston fan pundit Sam Weeden is not too disappointed Kirchner has moved on despite hoping for a new ownership group to take control of North End in the near future.

Speaking to Football League World, Weeden said“In regards to Chris Kirchner, it’s a real weird one to comment on, because I think with any takeover you do get that fear of unknown.

“Obviously, with the Trevor Hemmings family, Preston have always had that security and therefore when you’re potentially getting new ownership and a new regime, there always is that fear of the unknown.

“We’ve seen a lot of clubs local to us; Bury, Bolton, Blackpool, all have financial problems, Blackburn as well.

“So I think there’s always fear that could happen to us, however he (Kirchner) looks like he’s taking over Derby now so it’ll be really interesting to see how he does at Derby.

“Because if he’s a great success at Derby, we’ll realise what we’ve missed out on.

“If the rumours are true, that he’s had a bid accepted at North End and he’s tried to knock the price down, that’s not really the professional manner I’d like a serious businessman to go down about a football club.

“Therefore, I’m kind of pleased we’ve steered away from him.

Yes No

“Obviously, going forward I think the club does need a change of regime, because as much as I’m thankful for what the Hemmings family have done for us in terms of keeping the club afloat, and all they’ve done for us over the years, I think, obviously with Trevor’s passing, we’ve got no idea how much the family who are running it now are interested in football.

“There’ve been several bids for the club and if one comes in that is serious, I would be open to the change.

“But I’d rather it’d be someone who’s not going to faff about with the money side of things and knows what they’re about.”
