Preston North End are keen to add another forward to their frontline.
Preston North End are eyeing up a move for Gent striker Andri Gudjohnsen.
The Lilywhites kicked off their 2025/26 Championship campaign with a point against QPR at Loftus Road, as Milutin Osmajic’s audacious chip cancelled out Ben Whiteman’s unfortunate own goal.
After a fresh injury blow to striker Daniel Jebbison, Paul Heckingbottom and Co. are now reportedly keen to add another forward to their ranks in the final stages of the transfer window.
North End were recently revealed to have made a £3 million bid for Wycombe Wanderers striker Richard Kone, highlighting the Lancashire outfit’s desire to secure another frontman.
According to journalist Alan Nixon on Sunday via his Patreon, PNE are now looking at a deal for Gudjohnsen.
The 23-year-old is the son of Eidur Gudjohnsen, the legendary forward who operated for sides such as Chelsea, Barcelona, Bolton Wanderers and PSV throughout his long and successful career.
Andri is currently struggling to make an impact on the starting XI at Belgian outfit Genk, and is reportedly extremely keen to make a move to England.
Last season saw the young striker net five times in 32 league matches, after scoring 15 goals the year prior for Danish club Lyngby.
Gudjohnsen has also made 34 appearances for the Iceland national team, netting on nine occasions. The forward is rumoured to be valued at £2.5 million, with interest previously presenting itself from Turkey.
Preston are desperate for some extra firepower but are limited to options that fit within their budget. PNE currently have Jebbison and Will Keane sidelined, leaving just Osmajic and Michael Smith to select from up front.
Heckingbottom decided to operate with two strikers against QPR, which meant that he had no options off the bench in that area.
Gudjohnsen would be the Lilywhites’ 11th piece of business this summer, having added names such as Odel Offiah, Thierry Small and Alfie Devine to their ranks.
Despite moving into double figures for new signings, North End still have a few areas in their squad that look rather thin.
This is partly due to the aforementioned injury woes the Lancashire outfit are currently suffering, but a lack of creativity is still somewhat of a concern for PNE supporters.
The addition of Devine helped resolve some of those fears, and securing another striker’s services could go a long way to rectifying one of the club’s biggest issues.
PNE drew 20 times last term, a division high, and failing to score goals was a heavy contributing factor.
Following Emil Riis’ departure, it is imperative that Heckingbottom and Co. get this move over the line to give them another much-needed profile up top.
