Coach Massimiliano Canzi, Eva Schatzer and Valentina Bergamaschi spoke to the press following Juventus Women First Team’s 3-0 win over Sampdoria on Matchday 14 of the Women’s Serie A season.

MASSIMILIANO CANZI

“The approach was the right one, we found the early goal that made everything easier for us because these matches risk becoming complicated if you can't break the deadlock early on. Instead, the girls were good at controlling the game right from the outset. Even in the second half we didn't find the goal, but we had a lot of chances and continued to create opportunities. I will watch the match between Inter and Roma, also because they will be our next two opponents: right now we are ahead and we knew this match was important to extend our lead and see what they do. On [Eva] Schatzer, I think her performance speaks for itself: she showed great humility, her attitude has always been excellent and she immediately showed potential to develop. I didn't think she could mature so much in such a short time: she did well and I have no doubt that she will continue on this path, I am very happy with her performance.

“The physical aspect is one of the keys to this team, we have and are working hard: we put great emphasis on these aspects, the girls work hard because we believe that intensity is fundamental to our game. Then there is the quality that our players display on the pitch, we as a staff must put them in a position to do the best possible. We will assess [Paulina] Krumbiegel's injury over the next few days, we have a lot of matches coming up and we hope it's nothing serious: [Lindsey] Thomas came in without warming up and did well, managing to make an impact straight away. The two new arrivals with us have done two training sessions, today I did not think I would play them because they haven’t played for a while and cannot be at peak physical condition: they have begun to integrate into the squad well, they are two girls who know how what it means to be part of a team, from a tactical point of view they are settling in and it will take time.

“We are masters of our own destiny, we have earned the points to get ahead of the other title challengers with our performances and we had to work for them. Positive results against Roma and Inter would be important for us to get what we want at the end of the year, the Coppa Italia quarter-final against Lazio on the other hand will be a two-legged match which we will go into as equals, a different competition from the league and very challenging.”

EVA SCHATZER

“I am very happy with the goal, but the most important thing today was to win and we did it. We wanted to do our part to start 2025 in the best possible way and we did it. I'm a quiet person by nature, my teammates help me a lot on the pitch and during training in Vinovo - that's why I can maintain this attitude on the pitch. I get lots of advice, they explain how to approach the match, they give me confidence. I try to take a bit from each one and do my best. I hope to end the season continuing to develop as I am now, I hope I will continue on this path for a long time because then I will be very satisfied.”

VALENTINA BERGAMASCHI

“I am happy with the team's approach in this first match of the year, we are a great group that wants to continue working hard to achieve our goals and we are on the right path. I always put myself at the disposal of the group, trying to give words of encouragement to my teammates: all I can do is keep working and give my best. Coach Canzi has given character and charisma to the group: a strength that has allowed us to face these months at our best, we never give up and we want to achieve our ambitious goals. There is always room for improvement, we continue to believe in what we do with the desire to improve day after day.”
