Even on an occasion such as his 70th birthday on this Wednesday, Herbert Hainer isn't someone who spends too long looking back. "In my life, I've always been driven to do new things and look forward – what can I do differently, what can I do better," explains the FC Bayern president in the summer edition of members' magazine '51'. "I'm excited for what the future holds and grateful that I'm in good health on my 70th birthday."

FCB president since 2019

Hainer has presided over the sports club with the most members in the world since 2019, following 15 years as CEO of adidas, a world leader among sportswear manufacturers. He's affected much during this period – and, naturally, still wants to do much more. Hainer always looks for dialogue with members and supporters in order to weld them even closer to the club. In addition to the fan club visits that already existed, the members' Stammtisch, various different workshops and events such as the presidential Schafkopf tournament have been established during his tenure.

"My credo has always been that the fans are the heart of a club, and what keeps everything together," says Hainer. But just as important for the president are the shared values for which the club stands: "FC Bayern has always had a social core, and in recent years we've done a lot in our commitment to diversity through our initiative 'Red against Racism'. Whether it's our commitment to combating discrimination of all kinds, from racism and anti-Semitism to homophobia, or our initiatives in the area of inclusion – I promise we won't let up an inch."

Hainer: FC Bayern unites people

Hainer leads by example, not least when it comes to inclusion. At the end of last year, for example, he was the first president in German football to send Christmas greetings in sign language. "Everyone is welcome at FC Bayern, regardless of their background: FC Bayern unites people," says the jubilarian with deepest conviction. On behalf of the entire club, we wish Herbert Hainer all the best for his 70th birthday.
