FC Bayern will celebrate a special premiere in the upcoming Bundesliga match against VfL Wolfsburg on Sunday, 12 May. For the first time, the players will wear the new home shirt, which has the motto „The Magic of Triple Red“.

According to FC Bayern’s official website, the new jersey design is a bold departure from the previous colour schemes. The three different shades of red merge into a subtle striped pattern, with the classic „FCB Red“ colour dominating. This colour choice is not only intended to commemorate the historic treble success of 2020, but also to symbolise the hopes and ambitions for the coming season, especially as the Champions League final will be held in Munich in 2025.

Interestingly, the jersey was first presented by the Bayern women in the DFB Cup final on 9 May against the women of VfL Wolfsburg. Three days later, it will be coach Thomas Tuchel’s team that will show off the dark red jerseys in the league match against Wolfsburg.

Fans criticise new home kit

The fans‘ reaction to the new design was mixed. While some praise the fresh look and the homage to past triumphs, there is also criticism, particularly because of the choice of colours. „A stadium in red, a team in red and white! Stop jersey experiments – keep your promises,“ read a banner in the south curve during the Champions League semi-final against Real Madrid. The background to this is that the club colours are red and white and the fans also want to see their team in these colours.

Bayern star Leroy Sané unintentionally leaked the new jersey at the beginning of April. During a video shoot with new winter signing Eric Dier and TV pundit Gary Neville, Sané unexpectedly appeared in the background – wearing a previously unknown dark red jersey. This incident already suggested at the time that Sané was taking part in a photo shoot for the new home kit for the 2024/25 season.
