Yoane Wissa's departure is becoming more likely. Already facing difficulties due to his desire to leave and the ongoing standoff with club management, Wissa has to watch Brentford's first match of the season from the stands.
The Congolese international (27 caps, 5 goals) has not been included in the squad for the opening Premier League fixture. The Bees will travel to Nottingham this Sunday, August 17, 2025, at 13:00 GMT.
His manager, Keith Andrews, explained the decision, calling it a natural outcome after a turbulent pre-season: “I made this decision because his pre-season has been very disrupted, and there is a lot of interest in him.”
He added that it was a decision made with reluctance. “As head coach, I want Yoane to be with us and part of the squad. But I fully understand his situation. I have a very good relationship with him, and that will continue. But we want him to stay,” he emphasized.
The former Lorient striker, who scored 19 goals in the Premier League last season, is strongly rumored to be closing in on a move to Newcastle.
