Manchester United and Tottenham have both booked their places in the Europa League final in Bilbao - a result that guarantees six Premier League clubs will feature in the 2025–26 Champions League.
England will become the first country ever to have six clubs in the competition in a single season.
The Premier League usually gets four spots for its top four teams. However, for the 2025–26 campaign, England has secured an extra place thanks to the strong performances of its clubs in Europe this season.
UEFA’s updated format now awards two additional Champions League spots to the countries whose clubs perform best across the Champions League, Europa League, and Conference League in the previous season.
As a result, the Premier League’s fifth-placed team this year will also qualify.
On top of that, the Europa League winners automatically earn a place in next season’s Champions League. United and Spurs are set to meet in the final in Bilbao later this month, with both the trophy and a Champions League place on the line.
Since neither club is on course to qualify via their league position, the winner will take that sixth spot - guaranteeing England a record number of teams in the competition.
