Which Premier League team is outperforming a rival?

For Newcastle United and the rest, it surely comes down to what it always does.

How many matches you are winning!

So I have had a look at all 20 Premier League clubs this season…

We are now coming up to six months into the 2024/25 season, this is how many matches each Premier League team has won (and lost), in Premier League AND domestic cup competitions (as of the morning of 3 February 2025):

21 and 2 Liverpool

18 and 7 Newcastle United

15 and 6 Forest

14 and 8 Man City

13 and 6 Chelsea

12 and 6 Bournemouth

12 and 13 Tottenham

12 and 8 Villa

11 and 7 Fulham

11 and 8 Brighton

11 and 9 Palace

11 and 11 Man U

10 and 13 Brentford

8 and 10 Everton

8 and 12 West Ham

7 and 16 Leicester

7 and 16 Wolves

6 and 20 Southampton

4 and 15 Ipswich

As you can see above, when it comes to domestic competitions this season, Newcastle United remain second most successful, when it comes to winning football matches.

Despite Saturday’s defeat to Fulham, it is still only Liverpool who have won more domestic matches this season than Eddie Howe’s side.

As of Monday morning, Newcastle with one more win than Arsenal, three more than Forest, four more than Man City, five more than Chelsea and so on.

Then you have Villa, Spurs and Bournemouth with six less victories in domestic games this season, compared to NUFC.

Up next, a massive match between second and third, when it comes to winning domestic matches this season, Newcastle v Arsenal in Wednesday night’s semi-final second leg.

Not so long ago , some Newcastle United fans had been wanting Eddie Howe sacked…

The media (and some Newcastle fans) still making out that it had been some kind of recent NUFC crisis, yet the last nineteen United matches (all competitions) over the course of fourteen weeks, have seen thirteen wins, two draws and only the four defeats since October.
