Ah, the Premier League is back and as great as ever. Long live club football.
We’ve all enjoyed another action-packed weekend full of goals (well, if your team won that is), action and incident.
So, without further ado, here is the Team of Weekend: Matchweek 5.
Made a great save to deny Troy Deeney at 0-0 before making another fine stop late on with United leading 2-1 and that is why he is worth his weight in points.
Where would the Red Devils be without his heroics? Lower than 8th that’s for certain.
Manager José Mourinho joked he wasn’t keen on Smalling’s new hairstyle but he was thoroughly impressed with his display at Vicarage Road.
Finishing off a training ground routine to double United’s advantage, as revealed by his buoyant boss, the defender took the ball on his chest before volleying home. A really great goal from an unlikely source.
It is was somewhat of a coup when West Ham signed one of Europe’s top talents this summer but Issa Diop’s arrival has gone under the radar with the club’s awful early season form the main focus.
However, the Hammers turned it around at Everton with a 3-1 win on Sunday, and his dominant second-half performance was excellent. Brilliant on the ball and very much a modern defender.
We doubt Aleksandar Mitrović will be winning the Premier League Golden Boot anytime soon but he is certainly a dangerous handful. Otamendi stood up to the challenge though as City breezed past Fulham on Saturday at the Etihad.
The Argentine gave an accomplished performance as he made his first competitive start of the season and pulled off two vital tackles.
Now we know it was the other midfielder who got on the scoresheet but Bernardo Silva was exceptional for Pep Guardiola’s side yet again and is flourishing into a truly exceptional player.
A fine touch, movement and ability not too dissimilar to his namesake, he fully deserved his Man of the Match award and we can’t wait to see him develop in this side.
A very mature performance from the 19-year-old. The defender was tasked with playing as a deep midfielder at Goodison Park and passed the test with flying colours.
Calm in possession and able to find plenty of space with ease, Rice has a very bright future and ability in abundance.
After 55 attempts on the road without scoring, Wijnadlum finally got an away day goal. It came at Wembley too. What a moment for him as Liverpool claimed an important win at Tottenham to maintain their 100% record.
The mercurial midfielder set the Cherries on their way to a comprehensive 4-2 win over Leicester with a first-half brace and, we must say, he’s very under-rated.
Picking up an assist too, Fraser possesses great balance, trickery and is always a threat. He must be a real pain to deal with for Premier League full-backs.
The Premier League’s ultimate talisman it seems. Without him, Palace lose games of football. With him, they pick up three points.
He’s vital and so good much of his time is spent dusting himself down from another late challenge. We’re with you, Wilfried.
Throughout his time at Stoke, Marko Arnautović could easily feature in just as many best teams of the weekend, as worst. Brilliant one game and awful the next.
However, the Austrian seems to have improved on his consistency in east London and was a driving force behind the win on Merseyside, getting on the scoresheet and also recording an assist. It was a shame his evening ended with an injury.
*Special mention must go to team-mate Andriy Yarmolenko who scored a stunning curling effort and worked well with the powerful frontman.
Hat-trick hero Hazard was in fine form for the Blues as Chelsea continued their clinical start to life under a new manager.
Certainly one of the top-flight’s best performers, it seems the Belgian is really in the groove this season and thriving under the positive influence of Maurizio Sarri.
