If you count the returning Kepa Arrizabalaga Chelsea have a glut of goalkeepers at first team level, with no one player standing out as an obvious choice for next season.
The same excess has been the case at youth level, although the Blues are making swift progress in sorting it out.
It seems like Teddy Sharman-Lowe has impressed the most from the recent youth crop. He’s just been rewarded with a new contract and a loan to Bolton where he can continue his development.
Even if they don’t think he will be good enough to ever be a first team starter, they clearly back him to be good enough to fetch a handsome transfer fee in the future.
If TSL is the winner, there are some losers too. The Daily Mirror yesterday reported that Under-21 goalkeeper Luke Campbell is close to a free transfer move to Crystal Palace. QPR have apparently also expressed some interest in the 19 year old.
A move to Palace puts him further from the first team than a move to the second tier – but the departure of Louie Moulden from the South East London club creates a space for Campbell to try and make the most of.

That’s no knock on him – he looks really promising – it’s just inevitable that there’s only so many minutes to go around, and that’s especially true in goal. Lucas Bergstrom has already been released and Eddie Beach is also going to go.
Max Merrick and Ted Curd look set to be the Under-21 main option next season if they’re not loaned out, keeping things much more reasonably sized. Both have many England youth caps and will hope to follow TSL’s development path through the lower leagues up towards the Premier League in time.
