An emphatic 6-0 win over Forest Green Rovers sealed back-to-back promotions for Wrexham, who were a National League outfit this time last season but have booked their spot in League One for the 2024/25 season.

The Red Dragons won promotion as their win over FGR was coupled with MK Dons' 4-1 loss to Mansfield Town, so the fourth-placed Dons can no longer catch Phil Parkinson's men.

Following Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney's takeover, the Welsh outfit have made some eye-catching signings, bringing experienced Football League players Paul Mullin and Ben Tozer to the club in 2021 as a non-League club.

The Red Dragons would go on to perform similar feats by signing James McClean last summer, who was a Championship player with Wigan Athletic during the 2022/23 season, while former Premier League forward Steven Fletcher also arrived at the Racecourse Ground back in September.

Now that Parkinson's side will be plying their trade in the third tier next season, they will be looking to bolster their squad with similar ambition as they look to do more than just survive in League One.

Finance expert makes Wrexham claim

Speaking to BonusCodeBets, finance expert Dr Rob Wilson has predicted they could target Premier League players over the summer, which would surely be their biggest transfer coups yet.

He explained: "Wrexham could target Premier League players when they're in League One, especially players that are nearing retirement, but it will come down to Profit and Sustainability Rules.

"In the same way that (Cristiano) Ronaldo has moved to Saudi and the Saudi Pro League to try and boost the brand there, top-level Championship, lower-level Premier League players that are perhaps searching for that last contract that could boost their profile, like Ben Foster (who played for the Red Dragons in 2023).

"There's absolutely an opportunity for those sorts of players to go in there whether they can deliver because it's really competitive in those divisions."

If Wrexham are as ambitious as Wilson is predicting then in what looks as though it could be a fairly weak League One renewal, they will fancy their chances of battling for promotion again.

The Reynolds and McElhenney era has already provided the Racecourse faithful with some of the most enjoyable times in the club's modern history.

But the prospect of entering the third tier just two seasons after plying their trade in non-League is a particularly exciting one, while supporters will believe that their side can make their mark in in the third tier.

Players such as Jack Marriott, Ollie Palmer, Steven Fletcher, James McClean, Paul Mullin, and Ben Tozer have all played in League One or the Championship before, so the Red Dragons can hold loftier ambitions than merely remaining in the third tier next campaign.

Vying for a third successive promotion is a very tough ask for any outfit, but should the ownership group have yet another successful transfer window, anything is possible for Parkinson and co.

The Racecourse side are on a seemingly unrelenting upwards trajectory and although League One is a difficult division, they look likely to head into the third tier as a well-equipped side.
