We are right into the thick of the business end of the Premier League season, and there were some standout performances on a pivotal weekend.
Our Player of the Week is âŠ
Brentfordâs 4-1 dismantling of Chelsea on Saturday was the kind of result that wouldâve had fans across the country giving it a second glance when looking at their phones after the match.
Thatâs before you even get to what the supporters inside Stamford Bridge wouldâve been thinking.
A newly promoted team thrashing, yes thrashing, the European and World champions who had been on a run of 12 consecutive wins going into the game. Unthinkable.
Vitaly Janelt bagged a brace, Bryan Mbuemo was unplayable and David Raya made some stunning saves but there is one specific player who deserves his praises to be sung far and wide.
Christian Eriksenâs return to playing football appears to have been lifted from the Hollywood 101 of scriptwriting.
Within 18 months, the Dane will be on stage at the Oscars slapping Chris Rock after picking up an award for the film they will make about his last few weeks.
Just nine months after suffering a cardiac arrest playing for Denmark at Euro 2020 the midfielder was back on the pitch for his new club in the Premier League.
The idea of that seemed remarkable enough but what has happened over the last seven days delves into the realms of fantasy.
Eriksen returned to the playing field for his country for the first time on March 26 in a friendly against the Netherlands, and with his first touch hit the back of the net.
Three days later he returned to the stadium where that horrific incident took place, Parken, and scored again while captaining Kasper Hjulmandâs side.
His knack for finding the back of the net continued in west London on Saturday, as he bagged his first goal for the Bees.
Mbuemo rolled off his marker before going on a lung-bursting run while Eriksenâs smart movement allowed him to find space inside the area.
The forward found him with a neat ball and Eriksen did the rest, perfectly lofting the ball over the on-rushing Edouard Mendy and sending the away end into hysterics.
It was a finish of true quality produced by a player with immense technical ability, sending Brentford on their way to their first win at Chelsea since 1939.
Eriksen has added a creative aspect to Thomas Frankâs midfield and that was on show again this weekend, providing three key passes while his consistent set-piece deliveries caused panics amongst the opposition defence.
But this was about more than just Eriksenâs 90 minutes, this was the icing on the cake of the perfect week for the former Tottenham Hotspur man.
The greatest comeback story of the season continues.
