As we head into the hectic festive period, there were a number of Christmas cracker performances over the weekend.
Itâs time to crown our Premier League Player of the Week âŠ
Liverpool will sit top of the tree at Christmas after two huge victories over Tottenham Hotspur and Crystal Palace.
The defending champions will go into the festive period four points clear of Leicester City and although these were two impressive team performances, one man stood out amongst the rest of the boys in red.
Itâs been a tough start to the campaign but it now looks like Roberto Firmino has firmly put that behind him with a wave of decisive contributions over the last seven days.
JĂŒrgen Kloppâs side looked as if they were going to be frustrated at home to Spurs last Wednesday night with the minutes ticking down as JosĂ© Mourinhoâs men standing up strong and appearing to be difficult to break down.
But Liverpool arenât dead until the final whistle blows and their Brazilian forward had one last part in the story to write.
Firmino rose highest to head home Andy Robertsonâs corner in the 90th minute to deal a crushing blow to their nearest title challengers, to the surprise of Tim Sherwood.
Saturday brought with it a tricky trip to south London to take on Roy Hodgsonâs Crystal Palace as Liverpool set about ensuring there remained top of the league at Christmas for the third consecutive year.
The visitors embarrassed the Eagles, scoring seven away in the Premier League for the first time ever with Firmino central to the goal glut.
The 29-year-old scored twice on Saturday, while also providing the assist for Sadio ManĂ©âs goal and chipped in with five ball recoveries to round off an impressive afternoonâs work at Selhurst Park.
His manager could not be more proud of him, especially as itâs been a pretty barren 2020 in terms of goal for the former Hoffenheim man. His brace on Saturday was the first time heâs scored away from home since January.
Speaking to BT Sport after the Palace game, Klopp said: âHis goals were top goals.
âEspecially the first one. It was a super goal. Both were world class.
âYou have to judge the quality and character of a person â Bobby Firmino has outstanding character and his quality is world class.
âWe were not worried. Sometimes you have to wait and take the other things he brings to our game.â
Firminoâs selflessness to sacrifice himself and intelligence to bring others into the game enables ManĂ© and Mohamed Salah to do their buisness, but any player wearing number nine will be expected to contribute with goals.
Saturdayâs showing was the all-round Firmino performance.
The samba star wouldâve been worried about his place in the team after the incredible start to life at Anfield of Diogo Jota but it has been some response from the forward.
A real Bobby dazzler.
