Premier League official Darren England will act as a VAR this weekend for the first time since wrongly disallowing Luis Diaz's strike during Liverpool's defeat at Tottenham in late September.

England will be the video assistant for West Ham United's clash with Fulham this Sunday, his first appointment in such a role since the howler in north London over six months ago.

The 38-year-old has been used sparingly as an official since his 'significant human error' and wasn't used as a Premier League referee until three months after the incident.

However, he has seemingly sat on the naughty step for long enough, with England now back on VAR duty - although whether he will be used for a Liverpool game between now and the end of the season remains to be seen.

A REMINDER OF DARREN ENGLAND'S LIVERPOOL ERROR

Just in case you had forgotten about just how catastrophic England's error was during Liverpool's 2-1 loss to Spurs, let's take a walk down memory lane.

Having already seen Curtis Jones somewhat harshly sent off after 26 minutes, Liverpool thought they had taken the lead at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after Diaz fired home following Mohamed Salah's pass.

The Colombian's celebrations were cut short after the flag was raised, but footage revealed that the Reds winger was actually onside.

However, a mix-up in communication between England and on-field referee Simon Hooper saw the goal ruled out, despite the fact that VAR had come to the conclusion that the goal should stand at the time.

Play restarted before the mix-up was noticed, meaning the decision couldn't be reversed and Liverpool swiftly conceded at the other end.

While Cody Gakpo pulled one back before the break, Diogo Jota was then sent off in the second half for two yellow cards - a decision which the Premier League's Independent Key Match Incidents Panel admitted was wrong, too.

Down to nine men, Liverpool's resistance was eventually broken in the 96th minute as Joel Matip's unfortunate own goal prevented the Reds from securing a hard-fought point - one that could prove crucial come the end of the season.
