Liverpool vs Leicester City, Anfield

The pick of the matches without a shadow of a doubt kicks off at Anfield on Saturday at 3 PM BST. This very fixture essentially cost Liverpool the title last year, as they failed to match City’s total by one point. If Liverpool had beaten Leicester at Anfield last season, there would have been a high probability of them finishing above City. But that discussions is for another day.

This season Liverpool have looked clinical and have managed to get victories even when they haven’t looked at their best. This is a sign of a Champion team. Earlier they would have already dropped a few points by this stage in the League. But under Klopp, Liverpool have found ways to grind out results regardless of their performance on the pitch. Adrian has slotted in well, but at times he has been found wanting when playing out of the back.

Leicester City will look to exploit this and force an error out of the Liverpool backline. Brendon Rodgers has made a remarkable impression on this Leicester side, and their performances are a testament to that. Since Rodgers took over, only Liverpool and Manchester City have taken more points from opposition teams. James Maddison, Jamie Vardy and the likes of Ricardo Pereira and Youri Tielemanns will have a big role to play on Saturday. This could be Liverpool’s biggest challenge in the league so far. Liverpool, on the other hand, will look to cement their position as the prime candidates to dethrone Manchester City by beating Rodgers on his homecoming.

Norwich City vs Aston Villa, Carrow Road

Norwich City find themselves on 17th position whereas Aston Villa are on 18th position heading into this game. If you have watched both these teams play this season, you’ll be wondering how they find themselves in such a  predicament. Both teams have shown signs of encouragement and played some very good football on instances. Aston Villa should have come away with all three points against Arsenal, and Norwich have already shown their potential by beating the best team in the league.

Having said that, the Premier League in uncompromising, and there are no brownie points awarded for good performances. Results mean everything and if both these teams don’t start grinding out victories, that 40 point safety mark will look difficult to achieve. Saturday would be a good time to lay a marker and send out a statement to all the critics and rivals already writing these two teams off.

West Ham United vs Crystal Palace, London Stadium

At the start of the season, if you had told me that after 7 rounds of Premier League matches, both West Ham and Crystal Palace would be in the top half of the table, I would have definitely questioned your prediction. But as things stand, West Ham United are on 5th position with 12 points and Crystal Palace are 9th with 11 points sitting comfortably over Manchester United. Both teams will go into this fixture knowing that they can come away with all three points, and that is what makes this matchup so exciting.

Manuel Pellegrini and Roy Hodson themselves are very smart individuals who know how to prepare for similar matches. They’ll both go into this match with a set gameplan, and it’ll be interesting to see which set of players are able to carry out their gameplan better. Zaha, Yarmolenko and Felipe Anderson all have the potential to conjure something out of nothing, and it’ll be exciting to see them play. West Ham might be slight favourites because it’s a home game for them, but don’t be surprised if Palace come away with a 1-0 victory.
