A Premier League imbalance?

Now set to work in favour of Newcastle United?

I don’t want to get anybody’s hopes up BUT I think every reason for optimism.

Between now and Christmas, just what could be possible for Eddie Howe and his players…?

This is how the Premier League table now looks on Tuesday morning:

Newcastle United have played 13 matches (all competitions) so far in the 2024/25 season.

Apart from League Two AFC Wimbledon, the other 12 games have been against Premier League clubs.

Nine of those twelve have been against teams currently higher than Newcastle United in the Premier League, only three have been against teams currently below United in the table. Those three games saw seven points picked up but it should really have been nine from nine, because as well as winning against Southampton and Wolves, United battered Everton and should have won (failed penalty, Gordon through one on one, Everton player clears Bruno effort off line when knew little about it, 10 v 0 on corners, 68% possession, 42 touches in the Everton penalty area compared to 13 for the scousers at the other end etc etc).

Anyway, now looking forward after the excellent performances and wins against Chelsea and Arsenal, Newcastle United now face surprise package Forest (who NUFC have already defeated away from home…) on Sunday.

However, Newcastle United then have seven matches before Christmas (see match schedule below) where Eddie Howe’s side play Liverpool at home, as well as six teams who are currently below United in the Premier League table.

As we all know, there are no easy games in the Premier League.

At the same time though, if Newcastle United can show the same levels as they’ve just done against Arsenal and Chelsea, there is no reason why we can’t attack this upcoming schedule with renewed confidence and momentum.

By the time we are all sitting down to our Christmas dinner, just where could Newcastle United potentially be by then???
