According to a fresh update from David Ornstein via The Athletic, Marcus Rashford, who has caught Barcelona’s attention, is leaning towards a move outside England if he leaves Manchester United this summer.

Although United would prefer to sell the forward, Rashford is also open to a loan or a swap deal if a good opportunity presents itself.

It is to be noted that Rashford spent the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa, but the club chose not to activate the £40 million option to buy him.

Despite having three years left on his current contract with Manchester United, he does not seem to fit into their future plans, and both sides are exploring ways to part ways.

While staying in the Premier League could still be an option, Rashford is clear about his desire to challenge for trophies abroad, which makes a switch overseas his preferred path.

Barcelona focused on Nico Williams first

Barcelona remain Rashford’s dream destination. The England star hopes to join the Catalan giants to compete at the highest level and fight for major titles.

A few days ago, reports suggested that Barcelona were working on a potential loan deal for Rashford, which would include a loan fee and the club covering a large part of his wages. However, nothing concrete has moved forward on that front yet.

The main reason is that Barcelona are currently focused on completing the signing of Nico Williams from Athletic Club.

The Spanish winger is the club’s top priority right now, and all resources are being directed towards making that deal happen first.

Only once Nico’s future is settled will Barcelona decide whether to advance talks for Rashford. Until then, Rashford must wait to see if his dream move materialises or if other opportunities come up either in England or elsewhere in Europe.

For now, it is clear that the 27-year-old’s future is up in the air, but his determination to find a club where he can win big remains as strong as ever.
