The way the English top-flight is played across all matches has changed entirely as a direct result of Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola, claims the club’s goalkeeper Ederson.

The 31-year-old has spent the most of his top-level professional playing career within the English game, developing his talents and enduring most success whilst working alongside the aforementioned Catalan tactician at the Etihad Stadium.

As such, Ederson is well-positioned to be able to offer his assessments on the way English football has developed over the course of the last eight seasons, having taken on a multitude of opponents and in the most-part, defeating such challengers.

Speaking during a new interview with ESPN Brazil this week, Ederson has stated that Pep Guardiola has changed the way the entire Premier League is played, particularly how more teams now have an intention to ‘play more football’ in comparison to when he first arrived.

“I’ve been able to play a big part in the project,” Ederson said, having first joined English football from SL Benfica back in 2017. “You take everything Guardiola has built up with the group, with the squad and everything he’s been able to reformulate practically.

“You see every Premier League game today, how the teams try to play more football, have more possession, it’s completely different from when he arrived.”

He continued, “So to be able to be part of this project and achieve everything I’ve achieved, I feel very honoured, it really is a childhood dream.”

Ederson is currently away with the Brazil national team but has been holding down the number one spot at the Etihad Stadium once again this campaign, despite an intense challenge from Stefan Ortega Moreno.

The German goalkeeper has been a significant improvement on City’s previous back-up choices since arriving on a free transfer from Arminia Bielefeld in 2022, and there was a belief in various quarters that he could have usurped Ederson into the number one role last August.

Ederson was heavily linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League throughout the summer, and had it not been for the undervaluing of the player from the side of Middle-Eastern football officials, there is a high chance he may have taken a new challenge away from England.
