Eddie Howe and his players kicking off at 3pm in their Saturday match.

As well as that St James’ Park contest, four other Premier League fixtures today.

Then two more on Sunday.

As well as the Premier League fixtures, we have the two FA Cup semi-finals this weekend (more of them later).

As a Newcastle United fan, have a look at this weekend’s other Premier League fixtures and have a think about what you’d like to happen and what is likely in terms of results.

Saturday 26 April

Chelsea v Everton (12.30pm)

Brighton v West Ham (3pm)

Newcastle v Ipswich (3pm)

Southampton v Fulham (3pm)

Wolves v Leicester (3pm)

Sunday 27 April

Bournemouth v Man U (2pm)

Liverpool v Spurs (4.30pm)

This is how the table looks on Saturday morning (26 April 2025) before any of the Premier League fixtures this weekend are played:

My Conclusions

Saturday 26 April

Chelsea v Everton (12.30pm) – This of course the massive Premier League fixture this weekend for NUFC fans, apart from our own game of course! Chelsea with incredible luck last weekend when trailing at Fulham, only to equalise with six minutes remaining and then a winner deep into added time. That was the first time Chelsea had won a PL match against a team in the top half of the Premier League (the table as it was before last weekend’s matches) since 1 December 2024. Cruel and terrible bad luck for Newcastle last weekend as Everton looked sure to deprive Man City of points, until the visitors scored seven minutes from time. Before that late defeat, the previous 12 PL matches had seen Everton lose only one, that was a narrow 1-0 loss at champions-elect Liverpool. Indeed, their only away defeat since 4 January 2025. Surely the scouse mackems can do Newcastle a favour today, against an unconvincing Chelsea side? A goalless draw maybe?

Brighton v West Ham (3pm) – Brighton’s form has collapsed and no wins in their last five PL matches, only one point from their last four PL games. They should still have enough to beat fourth bottom West Ham who have no wins themselves these past six PL games and couldn’t even win at home to Southampton last weekend. I still wouldn’t put a penny on Brighton winning though, so many teams clearly winding down as the season nears its end.

Newcastle v Ipswich (3pm) – The only match that really counts. Newcastle looking to make it seven wins from eight (all competitions) and get over that Villa blip. With Ipswich on their way down, at least 10 players unavailable, totally demoralised, a must win game for NUFC that I am sure they will win.

Southampton v Fulham (3pm) – Fulham with that VERY unfortunate late collapse to Chelsea last time but with still possibly a place in Europe to play for, you have to fancy the West London team here.

Wolves v Leicester (3pm) – There may be only four league places between them but Wolves are top of the PL form table (last six matches), whilst Leicester are bottom. Plus the Foxes have lost 16 of their last 18 PL games. Wolves will smash them here.

Sunday 27 April

Bournemouth v Man U (2pm) – A team with hopes of European qualifying up against one that could finish the season fourth bottom. Only one winner here and that is European hopefuls Bournemouth.

Liverpool v Spurs (4.30pm) – Another team that could end the season fourth bottom. Spurs have won against Southampton and lost the other four of their last five PL matches. Liverpool may be stumbling to their title success but will win this for sure against a Tottenham side that contains as much character as Man U’s.

I mentioned the FA Cup semi-finals and whilst their outcomes won’t immediately impact the Premier League table, they could do so longer-term.

Palace v Villa (5.15pm) – This could be an entertaining and close matched game if Palace turn up. They more than deserved their draw at Arsenal in midweek. Villa have lost two of their last three matches (against PSG and Man City) and this could go either way today. Villa would be gutted to exit yet another competition but I think they will probably win, though possibly only after extra time. On balance, I think Villa having an ongoing FA Cup distraction would marginally be better for Newcastle United and the Champions League qualifying race, as opposed to that confidence sapping blow that a knockout would give today.

Forest v Man City (4.30pm) – Another good contest in prospect and one where arguably United can’t lose. Both are competing with NUFC for the CL places, though I think reaching the FA Cup final would prove more of a distraction for Forest than Man City. I have a feeling Forest will win on Sunday.
