Word is everything in football. On Wednesday morning, it is fixtures that will do the talking.
With the 2025-26 Premier League fixtures being officially released at 09:00 BST on Wednesday, 18 June, fans across the country and beyond will begin plotting the journey ahead. The announcement signals the starting gun in the countdown to a new season, one laden with hope, tension, and the inevitable drama only this division can deliver.
It has been less than a month since Liverpool, now under the stewardship of Arne Slot, lifted the Premier League trophy to bring the curtain down on 2024-25. A new chapter begins swiftly. Slot’s side will discover who they must overcome first as they launch their bid to retain the title and secure a third championship in six years.
Promotion stories add narrative depth to the fixture release. Sunderland, absent from the top flight since 2016-17, return via the play-offs, ready to rekindle rivalries and bring their fervent support back to Premier League stadiums. Leeds United, champions of the Championship, are also back, offering Elland Road its rightful place among the elite. Burnley, meanwhile, waste no time, returning at the first attempt to continue their record ninth season in the division.
The season officially kicks off on Saturday, 16 August, marking 83 days since the Premier League last offered its unique mix of high-stakes football and raw emotion. While opening games have, in recent years, been played on a Friday night, fans can expect a full weekend of action regardless of where the curtain first rises.
As ever, the exact dates and kick-off times of fixtures will be determined throughout the campaign according to broadcast selections. But what is known is that the season will consist of 33 weekends and five midweek rounds, culminating on Sunday, 24 May 2026.
