Blackburn Rovers midfielder John Buckley is attracting interest from Premier League sides Leeds United and Burnley, according to Sky Sports Transfer Centre (14/01, 11:24).

Having come through the academy at Blackburn, Buckley has made 81 senior appearances for the club to date, scoring four goals and providing seven assists in that time.

This season in particular has seen the midfielder come to the fore at Ewood Park, establishing himself as a key part of the three-man midfield that has put Rovers into contention for promotion.

Now it seems as though that is starting to see Buckley attract plenty of attention from further up the football pyramid.

According to this latest update, both Leeds and Blackburn’s local rivals Burnley, are taking an interest in the 22-year-old amid his excellent recent form.

As things stand, there are currently two-and-a-half years remaining on Buckley’s contract with Blackburn, who have the option to extend that deal by a further 12 months, securing his future at Ewood Park until the end of the 2024/25 season.

It would be a big surprise to see Buckley leave Blackburn this summer despite this interest.

With Rovers in a position where they have a big chance to win promotion this season, it would make little sense for them to allow key players such as Buckley to leave the club this month, particularly to their local rivals in Burnley.

Indeed, given there is plenty of time remaining on his contract at Ewood Park as well, there is very little pressure on Rovers to sell the midfielder during the current market anyway.

That being said, with Buckley playing as well as he is, and the time he has left in his career to improve even further, you can understand why this interest in the 22-year-old is starting to emerge.
