Lee Jae-Sung is still attracted to the Premier League and on Thursday, the South Korean discussed his Mainz future with his current deal expiring in 2024. That means this summer is the final opportunity for the Bundesliga side to collect a fee for the attacking-midfielder, unless they reach an agreement for a contract extension.

“I feel very comfortable in Mainz,” said Lee. “Nobody can say what will happen tomorrow, so I’m concentrating on the next 14 games here.” Speaking on his future, the South Korean added: “Anything can happen. Maybe I can change or extend the contract,” but said that the Premier League is an option: “I feel very comfortable in the Bundesliga, but of course the Premier League is also attractive, especially since my idol Ji-Sung Park used to play at Manchester United.”

Lee joined Mainz from Holstein Kiel in July 2021 on a free transfer. The South Korean is an integral member of Bo Svensson’s squad with an ability to play several roles in the team. The 30-year-old has scored six and created one in 20 Bundesliga games this season and since his move in 2021, has played 52 games across all competitions, scoring 10 and creating four.

Since representing South Korea in Qatar, Lee has scored four goals in five Bundesliga games, and scored a brace against Augsburg. Mainz have won two of their last three, and are 12th in the Bundesliga.
