The Premier League have hit back at Nottingham Forest’s social media post in reaction to their defeat to Everton.
An post appeared on the club’s official X account within minutes of the final whistle at Goodison Park criticising the match officials including VAR referee Stuart Attwell.
The Football Association has already announced its intention to investigate the tweet, which will now also be investigated by top-flight chiefs.
“The Premier League was extremely disappointed to read the comments made by Nottingham Forest on social media yesterday, following its match against Everton,” read a league statement.
“We note The FA has confirmed it will be investigating the club’s statement.
“It is never appropriate to improperly question the integrity of match officials, and the nature of these comments means the Premier League will also be investigating the matter in relation to the league’s rules.”
Earlier on Monday, Forest confirmed they have lodged a case with English refereeing body PGMOL for the VAR audio from the game to be publicly released.
