Premier League teams are optimistic that Eintracht Frankfurt will compromise on their demands for Hugo Ekitike.
Frankfurt have set an asking price of €100m (£85m) for the forward with Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United all interested in a potential deal.
Ekitike starred last season to fire Frankfurt to Champions League qualification. The 22-year-old scored 22 goals in all competitions and added 12 assists, earning inclusion in the Bundesliga Team of the Season.
Frankfurt are under no pressure to sell, despite Ekitike’s interest in a move to England. The German side’s Champions League qualification and January sale of Omar Marmoush to Manchester City has left them in a strong negotiating position.
However, The Athletic journalist David Ornstein has said there is optimism in England that a deal can be agreed.
Premier League suitors believe Frankfurt would be willing to compromise on their asking price for the player. The Bundesliga side are also reportedly prepared to be flexible on the structure of a deal.
“When you speak with English clubs, they think they could pry Ekitike away for a bit lower (than £85m),” Ornstein told The Athletic Podcast.
“Maybe if a club got to £80m with some add-ons or whatever, I don’t know how they would structure it.
“But there is some optimism that it’s not quite as high ultimately as Eintracht Frankfurt are letting it be known.”
