The Premier League have charged Leicester City over alleged financial fair play breaches.
Enzo Maresca’s side remain on course to secure a swift top-flight return as they sit in one of the Championship’s automatic promotion spots.
But the Foxes are set to face an independent hearing for failing to submit audited accounts to the league during the period ending last season, when they were relegated.
“Leicester City is surprised at the actions the Premier League has taken today,” read a club statement.
“The club is extremely disappointed that the Premier League has chosen to charge LCFC now, despite the club’s efforts to engage constructively with the Premier League in relation to the matters that are the subject of this charge, even though LCFC is not currently a Premier League club.”
Leicester become the third team to be referred over FFP following Nottingham Forest and Everton, who received four and six-point deductions respectively.
