Our weekly Premier League awards honour the best – and worst – of the football action from the midweek fixtures.

Moment of the Week

Declan Rice is developing a welcome habit of scoring big goals for Arsenal. The midfielder has netted three times since signing for the Gunners from West Ham, with each crucial to results.

His first came with a stoppage-time winner against Manchester United at the Emirates, before a wonderful first-time hit was the catalyst for a comeback draw at Chelsea.

Rice was the hero again as Arsenal edged a seven-goal thriller with Luton, heading home a 97th-minute winner to spark wild celebrations at Kenilworth Road.

Rice, to little surprise, has been a big hit at the Emirates, though his goals – and their significance – have been a welcome bonus. His midweek winner ensured Arsenal remain top of the division and, perhaps crucially, six points clear of Manchester City. Time will tell just how important that moment was.

Player of the Week

Aston Villa produced the performance of the week to beat Manchester City at Villa Park, extending their record on home soil to 14 consecutive league wins.

The manner of the performance will raise optimism that Aston Villa are the real deal in pursuit of Champions League football, restricting the champions to just two efforts on goal and cutting through the treble winners with ease.

Leon Bailey was in outstanding form for Unai Emery’s side and finally appears to be fulfilling his potential in a Villa shirt. After a hit and miss debut campaign, the Jamaican has found form this season and followed a goal at Bournemouth with the winner in midweek.

Bailey was in brilliant form with Manchester City struggling to cope with the winger’s incisive movement. He’s averaged a goal involvement every 68.5 minutes in the Premier League this season (5G and 3A).

Goal of the Week

Forget Ange-ball, it’s all about Dyche-ball right now.

The ex-Burnley boss might have a caricature reputation for favouring 4-4-2 and drinking pints of gravy, but he’s got Everton playing some pretty decent stuff.

A 3-0 win over Champions League Newcastle lifted the Toffees out of the bottom three this week, despite their 10-point penalty. The third goal came after a 29-pass move, with only Manchester City having scored after a longer sequence this season.

Save of the Week

Emiliano Martinez was rather quieter than he might have anticipated against Manchester City, who were restricted to just two shots on goal during a brilliant Aston Villa performances.

Those two shots, however, brought the best from the World Cup winner, who made a superb double-save to deny Erling Haaland with the game goalless.

Stat of the Week

“If you’re good enough, you’re old enough” might just be Brighton’s unofficial club mantra.

18-year-old Jack Hinshelwood was the latest to repay the club’s trust after scoring his first senior goal this week.

Donkey of the Week

Kieran Trippier hasn’t done a lot wrong since signing for Newcastle, but the right-back will be keen to forget this week’s errors at Everton.

Trippier was dispossessed in dangerous areas for each of Everton’s opening two goals, before playing Beto onside as the forward raced away from the third. He’s been brilliant this season, but endured a nightmare night at Goodison.
