Our weekly Premier League awards honour the best – and worst – of the football action from the weekend.

Moment of the Week

No shortage of candidates for this award, with big wins for Aston Villa, Spurs and Fulham all unfortunate to miss out. Bournemouth take the honours for our Moment of the Week, after securing a first ever win at Manchester United.

The Cherries did not just go to Old Trafford and beat Manchester United, Andoni Iraola’s side swept aside the 13-time Premier League champions in ruthless fashion.

Dominic Solanke looked every inch the centre-forward Jose Mourinho once believed was destined for England honours, Marcus Tavernier’s deliveries were delightful, while a midfield duo of Lewis Cook and Ryan Christie are playing the best football of their Bournemouth careers.

Bournemouth were brilliant, and are on the rise under Andoni Iraola after five wins in seven games. For Manchester United, this was a sobering result. It’s now 11 defeats in all competitions this season, while this was the third time the Red Devils have lost 3-0 on home soil in 2023/24.

Player of the Week

We’re big fans of John McGinn.

Hard-working and humble, the Scotland midfielder’s relentless running resonates with an Aston Villa fanbase beginning to dream. McGinn was arguably the best player on the pitch as Villa beat Manchester City in midweek, before producing another standout showing in the 1-0 win over Arsenal.

The Villa captain was the match-winner with a wonderful turn and finish inside the box, the highlight of a performance which saw McGinn cover every blade of grass. The 29-year-old’s backside might just be the most unique weapon in the Premier League right now, as the midfielder backs in to defenders and spins away from opposition on a routine basis.

He might be banning the ‘T-word’ at Aston Villa, but he’s a big reason why there’s title talk surrounding the side.

Goal of the Week

Take a bow, James McAtee

Sheffield United earned a vital win against Brentford this weekend, with McAtee’s moment of magic the difference at Bramall Lane. The on-loan Manchester City midfielder cut inside and bent a beautiful finish into the far corner, leaving Mark Flekken with no chance.

It was a first of the season for McAtee and first in the Premier League. It’s a goal that keeps the bottom-of-the-table Blades within reach of safety.

An honourable mention must go to Harry Wilson, who scored a near carbon copy of McAtee’s match-winner in Fulham’s 5-0 win over West Ham.

Save of the Week

Alisson made his return to the Liverpool side from injury this weekend and how grateful Jurgen Klopp will have been to have his number one back.

The Brazilian bailed out a lacklustre Liverpool at Crystal Palace, with big saves at crucial times from Odsonne Edouard and Joachim Andersen. The former was a demonstration of reflexes from the 31-year-old, who has saved Liverpool on countless occasions in recent campaigns.

Stat of the Week

If ever there was a stat to demonstrate the scale of Manchester United’s fall from grace since Sir Alex Ferguson’s exit, this is it.
