The Premier League has announced the nominees for September 2023’s Barclays Manager of the Month award, with Mikel Arteta, Unai Emery, Eddie Howe, Jurgen Klopp and Ange Postecoglou up for the prize.
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has won the award six times in his short career and will be gunning for a seventh. The North Londoners came through September unscathed.
They defeated a hapless Manchester United early on and found a way past a resilient Everton. They drew Tottenham Hotspur in the North London derby and beat AFC Bournemouth comprehensively.
Former Arsenal manager Unai Emery also had a formidable September with Aston Villa, even though it did not start well as they lost 3-0 to Liverpool.
However, Villa defeated London duo Crystal Palace and Chelsea before spanking Brighton & Hove Albion 6-1.
Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United have bounced back from a rocky start, a 3-1 loss to Brighton in September, to secure victories against Brentford, Sheffield United, and Burnley. They pounded Sheffield 8-0 and claimed a 1-0 scalp against Manchester City in the EFL Cup.
Jurgen Klopp and his Reds claimed vital victories against West Ham United, Villa, and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
However, their unbeaten run came to an end on the last day of the month as they lost to Tottenham in a highly controversial clash that led Klopp to ask for a replay.
A truly laugh-out-loud moment made even funnier by the fact that he was actually serious.
Spurs spoiled Klopp’s party under the guidance of affable Australian manager Postecoglou.
They claimed wins against Burnley and Sheffield before their draw with Arsenal and a very famous win over Liverpool to round out the month.
Postecoglou will be one of the favourites for the award. He currently holds the prize after claiming it for August 2023.
