These results are from the two rounds of COVID-19 testing between 10 January and 16 January.

After eight weeks in a row of a higher number of positives each time, the last two weeks had seen the number of new cases falling. From 103 positive tests (20-26 December), to 94 new positives (27 Dec-2 January) and then last week (3-9 January) down to 72 new positive cases.

Now today’s latest announcement reports that out of 13,625 tests carried out between 10 January and 16 January, there were 33 new positive cases.

That represents a massive drop, less than half as many new cases compared to last week’s figures, whilst less than a third of the record 103 positives announced after testing between 20-26 December.

So after eight successive weeks where the weekly positives had risen every time, this latest announcement means there have have three consecutive weeks where the number of new cases has fallen.

This allows for even more cautious optimism that just maybe the Premier League are coming out the other end of it, with fingers crossed the number of new positives continues to fall in the weeks ahead.

As of course we hope this will be the case in the general population as well.
