Luton managed to retain the majority of their key players over the summer, but future scenarios could see them depart Kenilworth Road.

Many of the players could be considered Premier League quality following their efforts last season in the top flight.

Here are two that could leave Luton for big money in the near future.

Alfie Doughty

There were plenty of rumours surrounding Doughty's future in the summer. The Hatters' wing-back was a revelation in a disappointing season for Luton, having potential shouts for a call-up to England.

Doughty has so far taken this form into this Championship season despite Luton's poor start upon their return to the second tier.

Rumours persisted over the summer with several Premier League clubs reportedly interested in the 24-year-old.

In fact, Luton didn't budge on a reported £15 million price-tag, which is what the Hatters see as a suitable fee for the Englishman to leave Kenilworth Road.

To put this in perspective, Luton's current record departure is Chiedozie Ogbene, who joined Ipswich Town in the Premier League this summer, for a fee of £8 million, according to BBC Sport.

This fee broke the previous record set by James Justin's exit to Leicester City for a reported £6 million in the summer of 2019.

Of course, Doughty's future currently lies with the Hatters, as the wing-back secured a long-term contract extension last week, which could see the £15m price-tag rise if interest sparks up again next summer.

There is no doubt if Doughty did leave, it wouldn't be on the cheap.

Elijah Adebayo

Another key player in Edwards' squad, Adebayo, was a shining light in Luton's relegation campaign.

The 26-year-old striker bagged ten goals in the Premier League, which would have certainly raised the Hatters frontman's transfer value.

After his impressive performances in the top-flight, Adebayo is hoping to regain the form he once had in the Championship, following his previous campaign in the division, finding the net eight times.

It is a likelihood this season could see him find his move back to the Premier League, whether it is with Luton or not. Everton boss Sean Dyche will be keen, with the Toffees' manager being an admirer of the striker.

It was reported by TEAMtalk in May that Adebayo is of interest from Everton, fitting the profile Dyche approves of.

If Everton are looking to secure the striker, it would be a sizeable fee for sure. Alan Nixon reported that at the start of September, Everton's interest remained.

Luton are reportedly demanding bids in the region of £15m-20m, which would eclipse the transfer record if Doughty was also to leave.
