Liverpool could move to ten points clear at the top of the Premier League table if they secure a victory against Aston Villa at Villa Park on Wednesday.

The Reds are undefeated in their last 21 Premier League games and are heading into this game on the back of a 2-1 win against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Aston Villa, on the other hand, are ninth in the league table, and they need to maintain consistency in order to get into the top four next season.

Liverpool struggled in the second half against Wolves, where they failed to register a single shot, but a win was all that mattered.

The next ten days are going to test Liverpool’s title credentials, and if they can come out unscathed, they will be in a very good position to win the Premier League, although there’s still plenty of football left to be played.

Ahead of the match, Arne Slot confirmed that Joe Gomez and Cody Gakpo will not feature against Villa. Gomez could be out for a lengthy spell and may need surgery. Gakpo missed the last game, but it won’t be long before he makes a comeback to the side.

Curtis Jones missed the last game due to suspension, and the 24-year-old is now available for selection.

In defence, Andy Robertson could be given a rest after his not-so-impressive performance in the last game. Kostas Tsimikas is a reliable back-up option, and he should get the nod for this game.

Slot could consider using Trent Alexander-Arnold from the bench. The Reds full-back started two games in a row after his return from injury, and he needs to be protected. Conor Bradley is more than capable of taking his place.

In midfield, Slot is more likely to replace Alexis MacAllister with Jones. The Argentine looked jaded in the previous game, and Slot must use him wisely.

With Gakpo unavailable, Slot must use his options wisely. Darwin Nunez could be given a chance to lead the line, with a view to a pre-planned substitution to use Jota.
