Germany will look to secure their place in the UEFA Nations League Final on home soil on Wednesday night when they play Roberto Martinez’ Portugal. They come into the game with a handful of injuries with Nadiem Amiri, Angelo Stiller, Jonathan Burkardt and Yann Aurel Bisseck all dropping out.
Nagelsmann also has to do with Antonio Rüdiger, Nico Schlotterbeck, Kai Havertz, Tim Kleindienst and Jamal Musiala, which resulted in maiden call-ups for Tom Bischof and Nick Woltemade. The latter could start in attack on Wednesday night with Nagelsmann hinting that he has picking nine of his 11 starters. A position that has question marks surrounding it is the No. 9 in the absence of Havertz and Kleindienst. Kicker suggests that Woltemade gets the nod over Stuttgart teammate Deniz Undav.
Florian Wirtz will also start despite increasing transfer talks. Nagelsmann refuted claims that the 22-year-old may not start as a risk to the player not picking up an injury, but Germany’s head coach said that Wirtz “is a competitor and wants to play.”
The other questionable position is likely the one alongside Leon Goretzka. Bayern Munich teammate Aleksandar Pavlovic could get the nod, but Borussia Dortmund’s Pascal Groß appears the more viable option.
Marc-Andre ter Stegen – Joshua Kimmich, Jonathan Tah, Waldemar Anton, Maximilian Mittelstädt – Pascal Groß, Leon Goretzka – Leroy Sané, Florian Wirtz, Serge Gnabry – Nick Woltemade
