So, what will be the England team v Switzerland?
After the woeful performances we have watched, what can we expect later today?
Those woeful England displays have in the main, been to the clueless selections and tactics from Gareth Southgate.
Today he has to make at least one change from the team that was so lucky against Slovakia, as Guehi is suspended.
Early on Saturday, the usually very reliable David Ornstein reported that his information was that Southgate has decided to bring in Konsa to replace Guehi.
With Ornstein also confirming, as had been widely speculated, that Southgate was going for three at the back (instead of his usual ten???).
The predicted England team v Switzerland then appears most likely to be, in a 3-4-2-1 formation:
Pickford
Walker, Stones, Konsa
Trippier, Rice, Mainoo, Saka
Bellingham, Foden
Kane
I think the reality for most of us, would be that if this is indeed the eleven who start, with the way Gareth Southgate goes about things, it will far more likely be a 5-2-2-1, or is that a 7-2-1…?
You can talk about whatever team selections and supposed formations, but if a manager is as ultra-defensive as Gareth Southgate repeatedly is, then it make no difference really, as it just becomes usually a whole team sitting back and inviting the opposition to score. Hoping that on the break England might sneak/fluke a goal.
Could this though be the day that Southgate at last changes that embedded philosophy?
We live in hope but fear the worst.
Interesting to compare the anticipated Gareth Southgate selection, with that of Alan Shearer, earlier this week he named this England team v Switzerland in a 4-2-3-1 formation:
Pickford
Walker, Stones, Konsa, Trippier
Palmer, Bellingham, Gordon
