Predicted Barcelona line-up to face Brest in UCL clash

FC Barcelona will be looking to put recent results behind them as they set on a new mission in the UEFA Champions League. Against French side Brest, a team that happens to be one of the competition’s most in-form sides at the moment, Hansi Flick’s men will be aiming for victory. However, Barcelona simply cannot afford to underestimate their opponents and suffer another disappointing result.

Yet, with some key players confirmed to be unavailable by Hansi Flick himself, it becomes important to see how the German coach ends up sorting out his starting eleven. Given the nature of the game and the kind of situation Barcelona are currently in, it would mostly likely mean that the coach will be fielding a strong eleven for the encounter.

Here is how Barcelona could line up against Brest.

Expected Line-up:

Goalkeeper: Inaki Pena

Saw a great display from him individually be wasted due to defensive errors from the players in front of him. So far this season, Inaki Pena has done no wrong and his performances continue to impress all those who initially doubted him.

Left-back: Hector Fort

With Alejandro Balde set to miss this upcoming clash against Brest, Hector Fort could end up being the player who takes his spot. His display in the previous game was impressive, and he certainly brings more dynamism to the left flank than other alternatives such as Gerard Martin.

Centre-back: Inigo Martinez

Some unnecessary errors from other teammates made the last game a real nightmare for Inigo Martinez, but he continues to be a consistent performer for Hansi Flick’s team. He should be starting this game and is expected to do so.

Centre-back: Pau Cubarsi

The youngster remains a bit inexperienced in moments when Barcelona needs to hold on in the final minutes, and it is clear to see that he is much more comfortable when his team are in possession and looking to dominate the opposition. However, the youngster has proven quality and he remains Flick’s trusted sentinel in the middle of the defensive line alongside Inigo Martinez.

Right-back: Jules Kounde

The kind of errors made by Jules Kounde in the previous game are simply unforgivable for a player of his quality playing at the highest level. However, he has proven before that he has what it takes to bounce back and perform to the best of his abilities, and that is exactly what Barcelona need from him now.

CDM: Marc Casado

With Marc Casado suspended for the upcoming La Liga game against Las Palmas, his presence in this UEFA Champions League game should be guaranteed as Hansi Flick will want to at least make the most of his availability for this encounter if he cannot count on him for the next one.

CDM: Gavi

A brilliant display from the young midfielder had everyone excited to see more from him. Now fully recovered, Gavi can finally offer Barcelona more of his undoubtable quality and it remains to be seen just how influential he can be for the team.

Did not exactly have his most impactful game for Barcelona in the previous outing against Celta Vigo, but he may have to play out on the left once again. Due to both injuries and a lack of alternative options, Dani Olmo may have to wait before he can play more centrally again.

CAM: Pedri

The Spaniard was crucial in helping Barcelona maintain the tempo of the game last time out, and as soon as he came off it was clear to see the team struggle without him. This time around, he will be expected to start once again in the heart of the attack.

RAM: Raphinha

The Brazilian forward remains in fine form as he continues to score and create chances for his teammates. While the overall results have not exactly gone in the way of Barcelona, Raphinha remains one of Europe’s best and most consistent forwards this season.

Now just one goal away from a historic milestone in the UEFA Champions League, Barcelona ace Robert Lewandowski will not want to get through this game without finding the back of the net. His presence for this game already feels like a guarantee.
