Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain must start against Newcastle United after Jordan Henderson started both of England’s games during the international break.

The England international has been performing well for Liverpool and is a key member of the starting XI but with the fixture list set to be a lot more hectic than in recent weeks, he could do with a preemptive rest.

The ankle, calf and heel injuries that Henderson has sustained in the last few seasons were due to overuse and in order to prevent any similar issues from arising, Jurgen Klopp would be wise to manage his captain’s workload.

The Reds face Napoli on Tuesday evening in the first Champions League group stage game of the season and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain could start at home on Saturday to freshen up the side.

Not only would it provide Klopp with an opportunity to hand Henderson a rest but it would also allow Chamberlain the chance to start and get some all-important minutes under his belt.

The Englishman was Liverpool’s best midfielder on the run to the Champions League final in 2018 before he suffered a serious knee injury and subsequently missed the showpiece in Kiev and majority of the following season.

His presence in the squad is key due to his ability on the ball as well as his upbeat attitude and personality.

Predicted starting XI: Adrian, Trent, Matip, van Dijk, Robertson, Chamberlain, Wijnaldum, Fabinho, Salah, Firmino, Mane.
