Few games can match the tension and exhilaration that this Wembley fixture creates. Often referred to as the “richest game in football”, the winner will receive north of £100 million upon promotion and almost double that if they manage to survive in the Premier League the following season. One set of fans will be sent into the summer with the excitement of knowing top flight football awaits. The other set of fans will face the harsh reality of another campaign in the Championship and another almighty scrap for promotion.

Ahead of this massive game, sportsbook CopyBet are giving their social media followers the chance to win a Premier League or Championship shirt of their choice by correctly predicting the score of Sunday’s final.

At the start of the season, CopyBet had Leeds United as 15/8 second favourites for promotion and Southampton next in line at 5/2. Now, ahead of Sunday’s final, Leeds are odds on at 8/11 to go up by any method and Saints are 21/20 outsiders.

But Russell Martin and his Southampton side will have plenty of backers especially when you take into account the results between these two sides in the regular season. When they met at St Mary’s Stadium back in September of last year, two goals from Adam Armstrong and one from Will Smallbone saw Saints run out 3-1 winners. The same two players were also on the scoresheet when they travelled to Elland Road last month for the reverse fixture, with Leeds once again on the wrong end of the scoreline, losing 2-1.

Adam Armstrong has 23 goals in the Championship this season, including two in the play-off semi final against West Brom last week, and it is 15/4 that the Englishman scores at Wembley and Southampton win the game in 90 minutes.

Leeds were superb in the second leg of their semi final against Norwich City when they ran out 4-0 winners. But their form in the weeks leading up to that game had been decidedly disappointing with just one victory in the seven games that preceded their rout of the Canaries.

Much of their promotion hopes may rest in the hands of their Dutch forward Crysencio Summerville who has lit up the Championship with 20 goals in the league this season. Only the aforementioned Adam Armstrong and Blackburn’s Sammie Szmodics (27) found the net more times than Summerville and the Leeds man is 12/5 to add to his tally at Wembley.
